BG 3.37: The Supreme Lord said: It is lust alone, born of contact with the mode of passion, and later transformed into anger. Know this as the sinful, all-devouring enemy in the world.

Lust is known as “kam” in our Vedas. According to the Vedas, lust is not merely related to sexual desires, but it also includes all desires for material enjoyment. The lust may include physical cravings, the urge for money, the craving for prestige, and the desire for power.

In Bhagwat Gita, Shri Krishna identifies the “lust” for the world environment as a malign attraction and the cause of sin within us. The mode of passion misleads us by making us believe that worldly objects will give us satisfaction, and with this, the desire to acquire worldly objects initiates within us. When the desire is satisfied, it leads to greed; when it remains dissatisfied, it gives birth to anger. One starts doing sins under the influence of all three- lust, greed, and anger. Shri Krishna says that lust and desire are the roots of all evil. Therefore, all three roots of evil must be abandoned by us.

Karmic partners usually create obstacles to our manifestation and hamper our good karmas.
